On ‘It’s The Squeeze’, the latest single from London quintet Dog Race, lead singer Katie Healy sounds like she is gasping for air. Working with veteran producer Ali Chant, Dog Race have created a strange and tense piece of music that could stand shoulder to shoulder with any seminal 80s goth rock band as it nervously paces the hallways of your mind. As Healy chokes and yelps through the verse, the band create an oppressive atmosphere with tasteful guitar stylings and a hint of electronic influences, all of which slip into the shadows for a moment of eerie quiet before breaking into the domineering chorus. Healy wrote the song at a “pivotal point” and describes the song coming from a “a time that began to suffocate my past relationship until I decided to accept the unknown instead of waging a war with it.” Those who wish to experience can catch Dog Race’s single release show at London’s Two Palms on 1st February. -Adam Brown
